Bio

David Morgan is a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher. He holds the E-RYT ( Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher) designation with the Yoga Alliance and was the managing partner of New Moon Yoga LLC, a yoga studio in Knoxville, Tennessee.

David’s first introduction to yoga was in 1992 while studying Buddhist meditation in Bodh Gaya, India as part of his religion degree from Middlebury College. A long-time student of Tibetan Vajrayana meditation, his teacher directed him to share shamata-vipashyana (calming-insight) meditation with Westerners in 2002. Since 2007, David has taught more than 1,000 meditation and yoga workshops, classes, and retreats.

David facilitates creative and adaptive yoga experiences influenced by traditional Ashtanga, Sivananda, Satyananda, OSHO Dynamic Kundalini, Raja and Tantric yoga traditions woven into the meditative and compassionate Kripalu framework. His inclusive, nonjudgmental approach has made him popular among students of all ability levels, and his classes often fill to capacity. Classes and workshops popular with students include Yoga for Complete Beginners, Hatha Yoga Basics, Gentle Kripalu Yoga, Stressbuster (gentle yoga with seated meditation and/or yoga nidra), Powerful Kripalu Yoga (a vigorous asana practice with traditional pranayama and meditation), Sciatic Stretch Workshop, Yoga for Fibromyalgia Workshop, Yoga Nidra Workshop, and the new and in-demand Rogue Vinyasa Yoga Workshop, a challenging exploration of arm balances.

In addition to offering yoga classes, workshops and retreats, he has a 200-hour yoga teacher-training program and leads continuing education workshops for yoga teachers on topics such as marketing, assisting, yoga nidra, and teaching yoga to special populations. In 2009 his blog won a writing award for his work in yoga and mental health. He is also a published travel writer and photo-essayist. His love of teaching — and of life — shows in his yoga practice both on and off the mat.
